Many people want to keep their family's belongings and items but just don't know where to store them. At Storage Time, we offer affordable storage solutions where you can securely store all your memories. As time passes, we tend to gather more and more memories, however keeping these memories safe can be important. With our storage units, you can safely store these items and belongings to protect them from any damage. In today's blog, we will share some tips on how to store your memories safely.
Step 1 : Organising your items and belongings
The first step to storing all your memories is to sort through all the items you would like to store. Start by grouping your items by category, such as photos, letters, cards, furniture or even clothes. By grouping your storage items by category, you are able to organise your items better so when you require access to them, you will know which box to find them in. This organisation not only saves you time but also saves you the hassle in the future when having to find a memory.
Step 2 : Choose the correct packaging materials
When storing your valuable items and memories, it is important to store and pack them correctly. Start by choosing the correct materials for each of your items to avoid any damage during transit.
For items such as :
Photographs: we would recommend placing them in a photobook and then storing these photobooks in a storage box, to prevent any damage to your pictures.
Documents or letters: we would recommend placing these in an archive or file away box to ensure all important documents and letters can be found easily. This box keeps all your important documents organised and safe so you have access to these as and when needed.
Shoes and Clothing: We recommend utilizing either a wardrobe box or a cardboard storage box to store your items in. Our wardrobe box allows you to hang your clothing in a box to protect your clothing from getting creased or damaged. On the other hand, a cardboard box can help you store all your shoes in one box to save you loosing your shoes or having to open multiple boxes.
Furniture: When storing furniture, we recommend putting protective covering and packaging on your furniture pieces. Any fragile items such as glass can be wrapped in bubble wrap to provide cushioning to your items. Furthermore, any items such as mattresses or furniture pieces, you can place either a dust cover or mattress cover to protect your items.

Choosing the right packing materials is vital for protecting your belongings, during both transit and storage. Before starting to pack your items, ensure you have all the packaging materials on hand to ensure a hassle free experience. At Storage Time Stockport, our boxes are made from top quality materials to guarantee durability for the safety of your storage items. Additionally, they feature double walls instead of single walls to offer added strength, catering to your storage requirements effectively. We understand that packing and moving can be a stressful process which is why we offer the convenience of dropping off your packing materials to your home or office.
When packing your items, one common mistake to avoid is overpacking your items in a box. Ensure each box can be comfortably lifted and moved. Place the heavier items closer to the bottom of the box and place lighter items or fragile items towards the top of the box, to ensure your belongings are safe from damage.
Step 3: Label your items
As you fill your boxes, take a moment to label them with their contents and the room they belong to. Clear labelling is vital to ensure you know what is stored in each box, so in future you can access the box you need without having to open all the boxes. Start by using a permanent marker and display clearly what room the box belongs to. On these boxes, label all the items inside the box such as clothes and shoes so you what is inside it without having to open it all up. Additionally, to help you further identify your boxes, consider using a colour coded method so you know what colour belongs to what room.
Plus, if you have any items in your boxes that are fragile, ensure you clearly label the boxes as fragile so when in transit or storage, you and everyone around you, knows to handle the box with care and attention.
Labelling your boxes will help you identify your boxes much quicker enabling you to access your items efficiently without the hassle of having to open each and every box.
